The Path to Recovery

LinB

Just a quick note to say thanks to Laura for the amazing and relevant article in Country Walking December 2017 - it's why I'm here. The article made so much sense as I'd just had my first "clear" scan but felt rubbish as I'd also collected a really nasty chest infection

Hi Lin,

Thanks so much for getting in touch. Pleased that you enjoyed the piece in Country Walking and that you found it helpful. Hope you didn't beat yourself up too much about the chest infection - so frustrating feeling rubbish when you hoped you would feel brimming with life!

Hope the infection has cleared up and you are building on the walking?

Hi Laura

Chest infection much better thanks and walking much improved. Or at least it was until my canine walking partner was taken ill. He doubles as my personal trainer, is called Teddy and is a very large German Shepherd. Yet another smack from life and not really the best time as I am currently in a scanxiety zone and will be until Wednesday 17th. At least he's at home after 3 days in the vet hospital and beginning to want to walk. I prefer to walk with Ted as he doesn't require a constant stream of chit chat which I find very difficult as I am deaf and combine that with lung cancer which renders me very short of breath makes walking and talking at the same time nearly impossible.

Hope you are going on OK

Aw no! I hope Teddy is getting better?

I am with you on liking to walk alone - I just like to lose myself in the scenery really.

Sorry to hear about your scanxiety. It's horrible isn't it? At times in the early days, I'd just wish they'd put me under general for the few days while I waited for the results! Quite a drastic approach certainly!! I have a very lovely nurse who always phones me with the results so I don't need wait forever, which is one good thing.

When do you get your results? x

Got my results - - - Yippee still clear!!!! Don't have to see Oncologist again except in the corridor. Referred back to Respiratory Consultant for monitoring.

Teddy is much better thank you, not perfect, but we know these things take time don't we.

Gave a copy of your article to my Oncologist and my McMillan Respiratory Nurse because I thought it so applicable along with an article in my copy of Action on Hearing Loss (RNID) magazine about the "Haversack of Fatigue" that all deaf people cart round. I definitely know about hitting the "wall"!

Just waiting for the weather to dry up so walking is walking and not skating on mud or slopping through any one of a number of swamps and Teddy doesn't have to be washed every time we come home, usually twice a day. Rural living is lovely as you are not pounding the pavements but it does have its down side at this time of year.

Just hoping I'll be fit enough to go to Crufts again this year. Lxx

That's awesome news! Congratulations to you! Must be such a relief off your mind. Hope you found some time to celebrate, or at least slow down a little to take in your news and feel some weight lift off your shoulders?

Thank you for sharing with your oncologist. I did hear from an oncologist last week - perhaps it was yours! Would be great to see your article on fatigue in the magazine. Do you think you might be able to share it on Mission Remission? x
