When to go see Doc

JimJamJame

When do you know it's time to go see your doc if you've got a new symptom?

I've had a rash on my arms for the last 3 days and before I'd have just ignored it and carried on with life. It's worrying me so I want to go ask my GP. But don't want to waste his time particularly if itll disappear in a few days on its own.

Do you find your going to the docs more now than before and how do you know it's the type of symptom to ignore, and the type of thing to take seriously. Im not thinking I have skin cancer, but I still have the nagging worry in my head that I need to get it checked out.

Hi!

I tend to go to the doctor if I'm worried about something, regardless of whether it appears minor, or not.  It's not worth the stress or anxiety to wait weeks to see if something goes away when I could phone my GP and she can spare a few minutes on the phone or in person to set my mind at ease.

Anxiety is a symptom of remission, just as much as physical issues IMHO.

Generally I've found my health-related anxiety has died down with time - I used to worry a lot more about every minor health issue, worried it was a sign of something sinister. Now, I can deal with it a lot better and it takes a longer time to consult my GP. xx

I'm rubbish at going to the doctor now lol. I'm in denial and would rather not know!

But don't follow me as I really don't think this is a healthy way of living. Go see the doc and don't overthink xxx

I'm having just this thought! If I went to the doctor every time my body acted weird I'd be there every day!

I feel so lucky in the relationship I have with my local haematology department.. They are there for me anytime I start to feel unwell. They have a number to call 24/7 which is answered instantly.. An over the phone triage appointment then takes place.. Once they have all your current information they speak to a doctor who will call you back with a daycase appointment.. it will always be on the same day, in reality it is usually about how soon you can get to the hospital.

I have been in the process since diagnosis in March 2016 ,it is such a reassurance knowing I have access to a dedicated team who know me personally and my unique situation. I would never consider ringing my GP under any circumstances.. Nottingham City Hospital haematology department rock!!

I find I am at the Dr's more now but I've taken to explaining my cancer survivor status to explain why I am concerned. It is really important that gp's know what treatment you've had as late effects can happen, I find it I don't get myself checked out I worry more and this can exacerbate the issue.
