Nerve damage

foxglove

I would like to make contact with anyone suffering nerve damage.  I seem to have acquired this after radiochemotherapy which ended on 22 December 2017.  However, some eight months later I am stuttering, shaking and have spasms and I'm told it is probably nerve damage from the radiotherapy which was for a small lung tumour, but so far no further explanation or help.  Anyone got any advice?

Hi,

I'm suffering with radiation damage and this is showing itself as nerve damage. I've had two types of treatment, one medication based and the other being hyperbaric oxygen chamber therapy. The medication is Gabapentin and it really has helped settle the nerve damage and makes it less symptomatic. The oxygen therapy didn't help me but they say the longer it's been since radiotherapy the harder it is to treat, it's been 29 years since my radiotherapy. I hope that helps in some way, nerve damage pain is the worst and I haven't found anything yet that truly helps ?

Hi,

I wish I had the answer for you but it is encouraging to know others have this nerve pain which is so depressing.  I have been prescribed codeine but I do not like taking large doses  and it only helps a short time.  I know I am very lucky that I had a tumour removed from my lung and a section of lung which was very successfull.  Everything has healed up well except this nerve pain and tiredness.  I hope someone has an answer!!

Thank you for your replies.  It is good to know I am not alone.

Foxglove, You definitely are NOT alone. I has taken the NHS years to wake up to the fact that this happens.  When I was met with blank stares, and mumbles about Age, I had an assault on American's official medical websites (issued by their equivalent of the NHS).  Not only were there pages of helpful information, but they also talked you thought what steps you could take for treatment.

One side effect I got was yo-yo blood pressure- I then struck lucky and found an expert at The Royal Brompton Hospital who has made a study of side effects of cancer treatment, and sorted this out.  I put up a list of top US cancer websites on aftercancers.com, and also describe what happened when I tried to sort out neuropathy. Good luck!
